Sweet letter from my Grandpa to my Grandma

Here is an exerpt from a letter I found that Grandpa Spendlove wrote to Grandma Spendlove in 1988, two years before he died. I thought it was so sweet:

“I hope that during those days when I’m in the spirit world doing my best to be near you and comfort you that you will feel something of the closeness we’ve had during our days. …God bless you, my love. Please have no regrets. You’ve been as near perfection as any could ask.…know that I love you dearly—my sweetheart.”

As I read that, I felt so grateful to know that soon Grandma will be back with Grandpa after being separated for so long. We talked with her on Sunday night about how excited she is to see her loved ones on the other side of the Veil, and what a great reunion it will be for her.

Sunday was hard but good. Grandma decided to stop drinking water, and was really anxious to get hospice there to help her. I was able to get in touch with Jan at church, and she called a friend she knows who works at a hospice place, and we had the nurses there within three hours, which is pretty record time, especially for a Sunday It was such a blessing, and they were so good to her. (There are always blessings at times like this, thank goodness). Grandma is still pretty alert, but today her oxygen started going down, so I don't know how alert she will be in the next few days--which is probably better for her. I'm going to go visit her tomorrow after work. I'll post more later.

That is so neat. I bet she can't wait to see your grandpa again.

>sigh< So is she still in the same place? What does it mean for hospice to help out?

Hospice is like a home health company for those who are dying--so they have nurses and social workers that are there to help the person dying, and also to help the family understand the process and what to expect. The best part for Grandma is that she has medications on a standing order now, so if she needs more pain medication, for example, they don't have to call the doctor to get an order for it.

That is such a sweet letter. I wish I had known grandpa better before he died. I was just so young and I really don't remember that much about him. Sounds like he was a good man though.

And take care of yourself during this bittersweet time.

thanks for finding that letter for grandma. Annette read it to her today and she was very pleased to hear it. She was very weak today and slept most of the time. I don't think she will last much longer. Thanks for your love and careing for her. Lubs.

I knew about hospice centers and stuff, but I didn't know what hospice nurses would do for her. Sounds like a lot of it is for emotional support and information? I'm glad she's getting the help she needs and the pain meds too.
